Technology
StarPort is not only a space-themed environment. It is a visit to the near future. To create this futuristic effect, we will use a variety of cutting-edge technologies, including robotics, virtual reality recliner chairs, 3D screens, magnetic levitating globes, holographic projections and the new Digital Showscan system.
The StarPort centerpiece, The Overview Experience, uses high frame rate HD/3D Digital Showscan technology created by legendary space visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull to immerse guests in Earth and space presentations that are virtually indistinguishable from reality. This new technological breakthrough in video projection will help us provide the world with a taste of The Overview Effect.
Scattered throughout StarPort, there will also be a multitude of large format graphics and interactive HD video screens. Our simulation center will feature interactive 3D space visualizations that include walkthroughs of the Moon and Mars, some of which will make use of virtual reality headgear.
The facility will further include a 3D theater that screens a variety of space documentaries and entertainment programs.
StarPort also has plans to incorporate a revolutionary technology, invented by StarPort creative director David Beaver, into its exhibits to allow for a stunning high definition 3D holographic experience.
At the end of the day, our guests will be allowed to "take the future home". Many exciting space-related technological devices and memorabilia will be available at our gift shops. Key card activated controls and the ability to download content directly onto laptops and phones will enable guests to continue their exploration of space at their own convenience.
In addition to technologies used at the facility, a full range of social media content and tools are currently under development. These tools will help build the StarPort community, keep customers up to date on upcoming events and allow remote downloading of our content.
